How to fill out a CV

Here are some good examples of CVs for different purposes:

We have also put together a few guidelines for when you are preparing your CV:

1) Put your contact details at the top of the page, in the centre.

2) This should include your Name, Address, Professional Email Address and Telephone Numbers – both home and mobile.

3) Write a short descriptions about yourself next, e.g. ‘I am a punctual, reliable individual..’

4) Add your work experience listed with the most recent first. Say who the company was, a short description of your role there and the dates in which you worked there.

5) Next are you education details. Put the name of the school you went to and what dates you were there to/from.

6) Now put in the qualifications you achieved whilst attending this school/college, which the highest qualification being top of the list

7) Any further qualifications you have achieved can go next i.e Health and Safety, First Aid Certificates etc

8) Finally put the names, addresses and telephone numbers of two ‘referees’ (people who know you like a teacher or tutor – make sure you have their permission)

Other points to consider:

  • Use a modern clear font like Arial – do not use a font that is difficult to read
  • Use white paper – It looks more clean and professional
  • Make sure you spell check your work – You don’t want to have any silly spelling mistakes
  • If possible, have someone proof read your CV – This means that they could pick up on mistakes you haven’t noticed
